The HCM screening process
HCM screening events are organized periodically in coordination with local schools and youth organizations. Those being screened complete a pre-screening questionnaire and parental permission form (if under 18).
At the screening day ultrasound pictures are taken of the person's heart, looking especially at areas of the heart concerned with HCM. It takes about 5 minutes to record the ultrasound.
Once the ultrasound is recorded, a doctor reviews the ultrasound findings and questionnaire. The doctor talks to the person about their results at the screening day.
HCM screening events are conducted as a community service. There is no cost to the participant. However a $20 donation is recommended to assist in our on going efforts against HCM.
